Beijing, Oct 24 (Kyodo) The Chinese Foreign Ministry slammed an independent report alleging that the country is building cyber warfare capabilities to attack US targets as "fabrications" that arose out of a "Cold War mentality."

The report by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, a congressional advisory panel, was released on Thursday and warned that in the event of bilateral conflict, China would use cyber warfare to attack US military computer networks in order to delay deployments and lower the effectiveness of troops already deployed.

It also alleged that China would also attack computer networks in "allied countries in the Asia-Pacific region," suggesting Japan would be among the targets.

"This so-called commission has all along exaggerated the China threat," Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said in a statement posted on his ministry's website yesterday.
