STAFF WRITER 17:12 HRS IST

Srinagar, Oct 25 (PTI) A run was organised on the banks of Dal lake today to raise awareness about the need to protect the world famous water body from the onslaught of pollution which is threatening its existence.

Accompanied by their parents and teachers, young students of a private educational institute carried placards which read 'Save our Lakes, Save our Heritage, stop pollution'.

Prior to the brief run flagged off by Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Salman Sagar outside Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Complex (SKICC), the toddlers read out a poem depicting the deteriorating environmental conditions and the need for preserving the water bodies and forests.

"Good bye Kashmir, All the birds are leaving Kashmir.

Rivers are dirty, lakes are dirty...", the poem written by principle of the institute was enacted by the students of the higher nursery.
