STAFF WRITER 18:48 HRS IST

Lucknow, Oct 25 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh unit of the Minorities Commission has asked the Centre to look into a complaint that a Kanpur mosque is in possession of military authorities who have allegedly barred the entry of devotees there to offer namaz.

Hearing a complaint in this regard, UPSMC Chairman SMA Kazami shot off a letter to the Union defence secretary asking him to immediately verify the truth about Kanpur's Bhajjapurwa Mosque and nominate a responsible officer to appear before the commission on November 13 when the matter comes up next for hearing.

The complainant Mohd Alam Raza Khan has alleged in his petition that military authorities of Kanpur had stopped the entry of Muslims in the mosque to offer 'Namaz' and also 'Fateha' on the mazar of Hazrat Peer Mohd Sahab alias Ghazi Khalifa, situated adjacent to the mosque since October 19, 1993.
