STAFF WRITER 14:37 HRS IST

Kochi, Oct 26 (PTI) The head of the Latin Catholic church in Kerala, Archbishop Daniel Acharuparambil, passed away at a hospital here this morning.

He was 71 and died of kidney failure, a spokesman of the Kerala Catholic Bishop's Council (KCBC) said today.

Acharuparambil, who was also the KCBC president, was admitted to the private Louredes hospital here in a critical condition on Saturday and was put on ventilator.

Though his condition showed some improvement yesterday, he passed away at 11.10 am, spokesperson Father Stephen Althara told PTI.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at the St Albert High school.

Archbishop Acharuparambil was an Indologist and had taught Indian Philosophy in various universities abroad for 30 years.

He also authored books on Hindu philosophy, Hindu religion, life and its perspectives, church sources said.
