New Delhi, Oct 27 (PTI) The Centre has asked the Bihar government to utilise funds released under the National Rural Drinking Water Supply Programme, warning that it will not be eligible for the second installment of funds if utilisation remains below 60 per cent.

"The state has a fund of Rs 600 crore available of which only Rs 40 crore was spent till September," Secretary, Department of Drinking Water in the Rural Development Ministry Rajwant Sandhu noted during her recent visit to the state.

"The pace of utilisation has to be stepped up if the second instalment is to be availed," she told the Bihar government.

Sandhu also took note of the low sanitation coverage in Bihar and suggested that the state address it.
