Guwahati, Oct 27 (PTI) A militant was killed in an encounter with the police in Assam's Chirang district today, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, the police launched a search operation in Panbari village of the district since early this morning and an encounter ensued in which the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militant was killed.

The police recovered a 7.65 pistol with several bullets from the slain militant who has been identified as B Basumataray of the anti-talk faction of the outfit's 3rd Battalion.

The police have intensified combing operation in the area.
