STAFF WRITER 14:16 HRS IST

Patna, Nov 4 (PTI) The opposition RJD today accused the Bihar government of diluting the RTI provisions in the state and strongly objected to the reported move to hike the fee charged for every information.

"The NDA government is proposing to amend the Bihar RTI rule and increase the fee to Rs ten for every information. The RJD will oppose it tooth and nail," RJD spokesman Shakeel Ahmed Khan told PTI.

Accusing the government of trying to 'dilute' the RTI Act in Bihar, Khan said any such attempt will defeat the purpose of the Act that aims to bring transparency and accountability in the functioning of government offices.

Observing that the common man cannot afford a hike in the fee, he said, "If the amendment is carried out, the official concerned would be free to charge fee at his will".
