Pune, Nov 6 (PTI)
The introduction of bus rapid transit (BRT) system has helped reduce the fatal accident rate in the city besides leading to a quantum jump in passengers using public transport in the dedicated corridor.

The BRT corridor equipped with Intelligent Transport System (ITS) has also reduced the travel time in the city.

"We have made 17-km BRT route operational as a pilot project under JNNURM and the result is very encouraging and now we have decided to add 87 km more under the BRT system," said Pune Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Zagade.

While fatal accident have been reduced to 23 from 32 on an average in a year, there is a reduction of travel time by 35 minutes also in the BRT corridor, according to a survey carried out by the local body.
