STAFF WRITER 18:58 HRS IST

New Delhi, Nov 6 (PTI) Indian Railways has decided to allow the transfer of the licence of deceased or medically unfit porter in favour of daughter, adopted daughter or wife.

Earlier, the licence could be transferred only in favour of the porter's son, adopted son, wife's brother or brother's son.

Now a licenced porter can nominate his daughter or wife for the transfer of his licence, which was earlier restricted to son or adopted son only, said a senior Railway Ministry official.

Though there is no restriction on women to apply for porter licence, there are not many women porters in the country.

Railway Ministry has also issued certain guidelines regarding pregnant women candidates appearing for the licensed porter assignment.
