STAFF WRITER 20:17 HRS IST

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 7 (PTI) Seventy-five per cent voters turned out today in the by-polls to three assembly seats in Kerala where the main contest is between the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF and the Opposition UDF headed by the Congress.

No untoward incident was reported from any part of the constituencies where polling took place, police said.

In politically sensitive Kannur segment in north Kerala, 80 per cent voting was reported. Polling took place under the strict surveillance of central para military forces. Ernakulam recorded 64.2 per cent voting and Alappuzha 76 per cent.

All the three by-elections were necessitated due to resignations of Congress MLAs after they were elected to the Lok Sabha.

Campaigning had been hectic with the rival coalitions clashing over a host of issues like irregularities in electoral rolls and deployment of central forces.
