Aligarh (UP), Oct 4 (PTI) The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) today said he was "prepared to face any inquiry", a day after reports emerged that the HRD ministry is mulling high-level probe into alleged financial and administrative irregularities committed by him.

"The allegations of financial and administrative irregularities are untrue and have been designed to sully my image by vested interests", VC, AMU, Lt Gen (retired) Zameer Uddin Shah told PTI.

"I am however fully prepared to face any such inquiry if and when it is instituted," he added.

When asked whether the NDA government was targeting him for championing the cause of the university s minority character against the policies of the Modi government, the VC denied it.

"The charges against me are being levelled by some vested interests to jeopardise and prejudice the ongoing case against my appointment in the apex court," he said.

He alleged that the same "vested interests" which were instrumental in filing the case challenging his appointment, are also responsible for the current controversy.

According to university sources, Shah today wrote to the HRD Ministry seeking clarifications regarding the purported inquiry on the grounds that such reports have undermined his position as the head of the institution.

According to media reports HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has sought the President s approval to initiate an inquiry against vice-chancellors of AMU and Allahabad Central University.
