TMC leaders detained during dharna at Krishi Bhawan for release of funds to Bengal, released hours later

New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and several other party leaders were detained on Tuesday night as they held a dharna at the Union Rural Development Ministry office here demanding a meeting with the minister and released around three hours later.

Banerjee said Tuesday's incident will stand as an example of 'New India' where public representatives were "dragged and manhandled" by Delhi Police and journalists questioning the government were booked under the anti-terror law UAPA.

"Today is a black day for Indian democracy," he told reporters after his release.
