Maha ST conductor leaves bus midway to drink alcohol, suspended

(Eds: Adds details, upgrades) Latur, Feb 3 (PTI) A Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation bus conductor was suspended for allegedly leaving his bus mid-route in Latur to drink alcohol, an official said on Friday.The incident took place on Thursday morning on the route between Latur and Kalamb in Osmanabad, he said.It took place a few hours after an ST bus was driven away from here to a village in Karnataka by an unidentified person.\"The conductor got the bus to halt at Katgaon village and got off. Irate passengers, who waited for more than an hour, set out in search of him and found him sitting at a local vend having liquor,\" the official said.\"He was suspended after a medical check up showed he had consumed alcohol during duty hours. There were 38 passengers in the bus,\" the MSRTC Osmanabad divisional traffic controller said.The embarrassment for the state's premier road transport undertaking in the Latur sector comes just a day after one of its buses got stolen and was found abandoned in neighbouring Karnataka.An unidentified person had driven away with an ST bus when the driver had parked it at the end of duty hours at a bus stop in Aurad Shahajani area here.The bus, deployed for services on the Nilanga-Aurad Shahajani route, was stolen between 3am and 6am on Thursday and was found in Kesar Jawalga village in Karnataka, around 14 kilometres away, some hours later.Efforts are on to nab the accused, an Aurad Shahajani police station official had said.In 2021 too a drunk man had stolen a bus from the Aurad Shahajani area, he had said.
